Puli illa Kulambu
Ingredients
Pepper - 2 tsp
Jeera/Cumin - 1 tsp
Daniya - ¼ tsp
Moong dhal - 2 tsp
Red chilli - 2-3 pcs
Ghee - 2 tsp for frying
Cocunut - 1-2 tbs
Small onions - 1
Method
- In a pan, dry fry the moong dhal and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- Grind the cocunut with jeera and small onion and make a paste.
- In a pan, add ghee and fry pepper, jeera, red chilli and daniya.
- Allow it to cool and grind it in a mixie and paste.
- In 2 tumblers of water add this paste and mix well.
- In a pan, add this water mixed with the paste and boil it with some vegetables (few slices of bringal, drumsticks)
- Once it is boiled well add the cooked moong dhal.
- After adding the dhal, add the prepared cocunut paste.
- Add salt to taste and switch off the stove.
Tips
- Instead of moong dhal thur dhal can be added.
- Post delivery (i.e after delivery) cocunut, thur dhal and red chillis should be avoided.
