Lunch recipes for the Mother after childbirth

It is important to have a healthy diet after childbirth. General tips for lunch are given below:
  1. A cup of rice (boiled rice) cooked well. The rice is generally mashed well.
  2. Addition of moong dhal is better than thur dhal.
  3. Instead of curd, buttermilk is preferred. Not to be served chilled.
  4. Two cups of vegetables boiled and cooked well without cocunut. More of pepper, garlic and tumeric powder is added.
  5. For curry (kulambu) for lunch is usually milagu kulambu (pepper kulambu),puli illa kulambu,pepper rasam or jeera rasam. Any one of them is served for lunch.
  6. No onions,chillis, red chilli powder should be added in the diet.
  7. No fried vegetables, potato varieties are recommended.
  8. Carrots and beans cab be added after a month.
  9. Appalams are not recommended..
  10. Thani vadam fried in ghee can be an accompaniment. 
  11. Uppu Narthangai can be consumed.
  12. Tamarind and tomatoes are not be added to the diet for atleast a month.
  13. Little quantity of lemon juice can be added to rasam.
Some preferred vegetables  
  • Flat beans (Avarakkai)
  • Snake gourd (Podalangai)
  • Ridged gourd (Peerkangai)
After 3 weeks of childbirth, other vegetables that can be added are
  • Drumsticks
  • Bottle gourd (Sorrakkai)
  • Choyote (Chow Chow)
These vegetables are taken either in poriyal or kottu form. Poriyal or kootu is prepared with moong dhal, pepper, tumeric powder,asafoetida, garlic and salt. Importantly these vegetables should be cooked well.

After having lunch ginger legiyam can be taken for digestion.
