• During the 4th month, a black saree is given to the expectant mother by her parents.
• In the 5th month, on an auspicious day, the girl drapes her black saree  accompanied with black glass bangles gifted by her parents.
• Her hair is decorated with beautiful flowers (poo alagaram).
• She is gifted with 5 different types of fruits along with dates by her parents. Dates are given (as it is rich in iron content).
• This tradition of wearing black saree with black glass bangles is followed to ward off evil eye.
